THEATRE: Alan’s Compositions and Sound Designs include: Sydney Theatre Company; Season at Sarsparilla, Fat Pig, The Bourgeois Gentlemen, Mother Courage ( A new composition for the Brecht Estate), A Hard God, Hedda Gabler, Boy Gets Girl, The Give and Take, Harbour, Major Barbara, Hanging Man, A Doll’s House, A Man with Five Children, Uncle Vanya, Death and the Maiden, The Government Inspector, Company B, Belvoir; Snugglepot and Cuddlepie (A new musical, with John Clarke and Doug MacLeod), Peribanez, Stuff Happens, Ray’s Tempest, The Chairs, The Spook, Our Lady of Sligo, The Threepenny Opera, Waiting for Godot, My Zinc Bed, Emma’s Nose, Twelfth Night, The Small Poppies, As You Like It, The Judas Kiss, The Governors Family, The Alchemist, Diving for Pearls, Diary of a Madman, Hate, Bell Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet, Moby Dick, As You Like It, Hamlet, Antony and Cleopatra, Henry V, The Winters Tale. State Theatre Company of South Australia; The Mystery of Irma Vep, Jonah, Squirts and was a Musical Director in residence. Alan has also worked with Playbox, Christine Dunstan Productions, Magpie Theatre, several Theatre Festivals, including for the Adelaide Festival – Dreams in an Empty City, Orlando Rourke, Singing the Sun Down.

Alan worked with Jim Sharman in his Lighthouse Company and in further projects.

Alan has written The Eighth Wonder, an Opera about the Sydney Opera House (Libretto with Dennis Watkins), Frankie – an opera for young people in Adelaide’s Come Out Festival. Has arranged and supervised recordings for Playschool, Bananas in Pyjamas, arranged for Sydney Symphony Orchestra, orchestration for the 1990 production of Chess and was West Australian Academy of Arts Composer in Residence, 1993.

FILM and TELEVISION: Alan has composed scores for many Australian Films and Television series, including: In the Company of Actors, Dangerous (Showtime), Love my Way (Series 2), Three Dollars, Loot, The Shark Net (ABC), So Close to Home (SBS), Human Contraptions (ABC, Winner 2003 APRA Best Music for a Short Film) The Farm, The Bank (Winner of 2002 APRA Awards – Best Feature Film Score) Looking for Alibrandi, Close Ups, Coral Island (1 of 6), Eden’s Lost, Travelling North (Additional Music).
